BMW Inspired By Gorilla Glass Used In Smartphones

Gorilla Glass, the tough and damage resistant glass used in smartphones to prevent the screen to crack will be used in the upcoming BMW sports car - i8 Hybrid. The i8 Hybrid will be the first car in the automobile industry to use Gorilla Glass. It will be used in the car's rear glass and not the windshield for its sound insulating properties. The rear glass will consist if two layers, each 0.7 millimeters thick with acoustic sheeting in between. There are numerous advantages of Gorilla Glass, for both - smartphones and cars. Gorilla Glass has the same strength as regular glass used in automobiles but it is comparatively thinner and lighter which is important in enhancing the handling characteristics of the car. Since the i8 Hybrid is a sports car, handling really matters.
